The challenge of a project is what attracts me. Thinking about it, drawing it out on paper, trying it, trying it again, tweaking it here and there, editing it. A part of my brain is engaged that isn't usually exercised otherwise. Problem solving is the best part, maybe even more so than the end result. This was great fun to do and I have learned so much to take with me to the next endeavor.
Inside the bottom layer is a pound of dry beans to give it ballast. The aluminum plate is riveted to a red cake tin. The layers are attached with tabs cut from a spare gelatin mold. The letters were cut from pie tins, the candles were cut from cookie and candy tins, the garland is cut from a My Little Pony game tin, the star is cut from a gelatin mold, the five is from Robin S. (she found a big box of numbers at a shop somewhere in New Mexico- bought the whole thing and then shared the wealth). See it in person at the Tacoma Art Museum, May 3rd, 12:00 to 5:00 for their 5th year in the new building celebration.
This is WAAAY better than you described! I love it! You do happy art - I like that.
Stay happy!

WOW!
Love this cake! It's SO CREATIVE! Using the cake pans was brilliant and the candles make me smile. What fun to see what comes out of your creative mind!

Jenny!
I wish I COULD see it in person! The details are so cool...the candles and flowers and the print embossed on the letters. I clicked on the image to see it REALLy big.
Nice work, be sure to post pics of it in the Museum at the party.
